How to Organized Photoshop Files ?

Photoshop is a really powerful tool to draw any digital presentation that we could possibly imagine. Some of us might have familiarized ourselves with Photoshop and may have even been working with it for ages. Still, I often find a Photoshop file stacked with poorly managed layers, causing headaches when a refinement is needed, or when converting it into another format.

For a graphic or web designer who regularly works in a team environment, where multiple designers may work on a single Photoshop file, the issue of managing and organizing the file suddenly becomes a very important matter.
In general, there are some benefits when we organize our files properly:
  1. It will streamline the workflow.
  2. It helps other designers to understand our design structure easily.
  3. All designers involved with the file can do a revision, quickly and easily, if necessary.
  4. This minimizes errors in the criss-cross production process.
Thus, in the following post, we will share some basic tips to manage and organize Photoshop files so that we can work more efficiently, particularly in a team.
When working with Photoshop, we typically have many files like photos, backgrounds, fonts and the PSD file itself.
To organize these files and reduce the possibility of chaos, the items should be placed in corresponding folders. So, before we even start up Photoshop, we should create these folders first. For instance, a fonts folder for font files or a background folder for the images we use as backdrops in the design.

That way, you will be able to do the project faster, as you already know where to go for which file. On the Windows OS, files can be stored according to recent history, which will help you call files even faster.
In web development this practice is obvious. Files and all assets must be placed in the respective directories for the website to work properly, otherwise it would cause a 404 Not Found error.

2. Setting The Document Properly

In early 2003, I was working with Photoshop for the first time. I did not set up the document properly, which eventually became a real pain during the production process.
Photoshop comes with several preset documents that you can use to quickly and easily create a commonly used standard document for your project. However, often times we need to work with a document size that is not available in the Presets. In these conditions, we have to set up the document ourselves.
presets menu 5 Simple Tips to More Organized Photoshop Files
When creating a new document through Files > New... menu or hitting Ctrl / Cmd + N, a new window with several options will pop up. In this dialog we can set document parameters: like the dimension, DPI, background and color mode.

Print Design

When designing a project intended for print, the document will need some pre-requisites to ensure that the document can be printed correctly. It normally needs a 300 dpi resolution and has to be inCMYK color mode to be printed via color separation. Document size may vary depending on the project specifications.
print design 5 Simple Tips to More Organized Photoshop Files
You will also need to ‘bleed’ print designs. To bleed a document is to give it an extended area from the actual document size it will be printed on. This is important for designs that use a colored background instead of white. Bleeding prevents the occurence of white spaces that will turn up when cropping is not done with perfect precision.

Web Design

Designing websites need fewer specifications as it is only for screen view purposes, so a 72 dpiresolution with an RGB color mode should be sufficient. The pixel (px) is used as the unit measurement.

You can save this customized document specification, if you find that you will use it regularly.

3. Naming The Layers

We have prepared the files and the new document has been set up. We now move to working with layers.
When we have layers that grow along with our design, it would be better to rename these layers to be more descriptive and meaningful rather than just with random names like Shape 1 or Layer 1. That way we will be able to find the layers we want to edit more easily.
messed up layers 5 Simple Tips to More Organized Photoshop Files
Be descriptive with the name. However, make the layers’ names simple, and short as well. Use your local language if it is the preferred language in your work environment.
managed layers 5 Simple Tips to More Organized Photoshop Files

4. Grouping The Layers

We may find that we have too many layers and these layers are actually several parts that shape a single object. In this case, we can group those layers and name the group to appropriately represent all the layers. We can also create a sub-group and nest it inside a group like a tree structure, if necessary.
When naming the groups, try to be descriptive, simple, short and intuitive. For instance, in web design, we typically have default groups of layers like header, sidebar, content and footer.
layers group 5 Simple Tips to More Organized Photoshop Files
This practice will be helpful when working in a team, particularly when we work with developers that tend to work in an orderly and organized fashion. This practice can also be applied in print design projects.

5. Arrange Layers Or Groups In Order

Poorly ordered layers will drive anyone insane, and it is a nightmare to look at as well.
Let’s try putting the layers and the groups in a logical order. Have the layers and the groups positioned in the Layer tab as matched with its visual position. For instance, when we have several layers/groups like question, replied, option box and screen, the layers position should be as follows:
group in order 5 Simple Tips to More Organized Photoshop Files
That way, anyone who will continue working on the design can intuitively find the layers and the groups faster.

6.Clean Up Unused Layers

Sometimes we try a lot of things to get an effect or look for a design; this often leaves some unused layers. Eliminating these layers will not only keep the Layers tab clean and neat but it also reduces the PSD file size as well.

How To Enhance & Retouch An Image in Photoshop ?

Today, i want to teach you something new about photoshop..!!!
So read this article carefully and get started..
enhance retouch image in photoshop How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial
In this tutorial, I will share some of my favourite enhancing and retouching techniques. You may know some of my techniques, and others, you may not. So, let’s get started.

Step 1

Open the Cosplay Girl image. Special thanks to Priestess Shizuka for her permission to use this image. You can find the image here. Crop it (Ctrl + C) to get rid of those black edges at the top and bottom.
enhance retouch step1 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 2

Notice that the image isn’t smooth enough, especially the hair, so I want to make it smoother by increasing the amount of the pixels. Choose Image > Image size, or hit Alt + Ctrl + I on the keyboard. In the resolution column, change the value to 200 pixels/inch or more. And then click OK.
enhance retouch step2 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 3

Now I want to level it, to make this image better. As you can see when we open the histogram (Window > Histogram), the histogram tells us that this image suffered an ‘unbalance’ tonal range. The gap at the light area (right side) means the highlight areas are not as bright as they could be. Thats why the image looks rather dull.
enhance retouch step3 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial
It will be good if we can trace the brightest, darkest and midtone pixels of this image to apply proper level adjustment on it. This is so Photoshop can convert the brightest pixels in this image to become pure bright (pure white), darkest pixels to be pure dark, and the midtones as well, for ideal tonal distribution.
To do that, duplicate the background layer by hitting Ctrl + J. Create a new layer under it by hitting Ctrl + Shift + N, and then, fill it with white color (Ctrl + Backspace).
enhance retouch step3b How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 4

Target layer 1, and double click it to bring up the Layer Style dialog box. On the Blending Optionswindow, drag the white triangle to the left, until it almost meets the black triangle on the left post. The remaining spot is the darkest pixel in this image.
enhance retouch step4 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 5

Take the Color Sampler tool, change the Sample Size to 3 by 3 Average, then point it to one of those remaining spots in this image. We’ve got sample 1 here — the darkest pixels.
enhance retouch step5 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 6

Repeat step 4, but this time in the Layer Style window, do the opposite by dragging the black triangle to the right.
Again with the Color Sampler tool, point it to the one of those remaining spots. We’ve got sample 2: the lightest pixels.
enhance retouch step6 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 7

This time we want to trace the midtones. Repeat step 4, and in the Layer Style window drag the black and white triangles to the center, around 127.5 (= 255/2). However, when we drag it close to 127.5, the spot sample becomes too narrow, with a focus on the girl only, not the background, thus we should drag the black triangle to 121, and the white triangle to 134 (6.5 units either way of 127.5).
That will be the ‘equal’ value for both of them. Then, with the Sampler Color tool, take a sample from one of those remaining spots. Here we’ve got Sample 3: the midtones.
enhance retouch step7 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 8

Now target Layer 1, double click it to bring up the Layer Style dialog box, and then reset those triangles to the original post. Now, with the Sampler tool still active, you should indications as shown below:
enhance retouch step8 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial
You can use actual pixel mode when tracing those spots, to get more accurate results, but in this case, I think what we did before is enough.

Step 9

Now, create a Levels Adjustments layer above layer 1. On the Levels Adjustments window, use the eyedropper to set the black point. Click on the eyedropper, at black, then on Sample 1 that we made previously.
enhance retouch step9 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 10

For the midtones, click the eyedropper for gray point, point and click it to Sample 3. And last, click the eyedropper for white point, then point and click Sample 2.
enhance retouch step10 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial
Now, what we’ve got here is an image with an ‘ideal’ tonal and color range. We’ve got pure black, pure white and the tonal spans mathematically ideal. With a quick visual check, you can see that the image is indeed getting better. That’s the best I can achieve for this image so far.

Step 11

Now let’s add some details and emphasize some parts of the image. Of course, Photoshop can’t create any details, but it can reveal or enhance it. First, hit Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E to merge the layers without flattening all layers beneath it. Target this new layer, then go to Image > Calculations. This will bring us to the Calculations dialog box.
enhance retouch step11 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 12

After taking a closer look at each channel, you will see that the green channel contains the most details, so we’re going to use that channel as a ‘patch’. We’re going to multiply it to get a more significant result. In the Calculations dialog box, set the value as shown below.
enhance retouch step12 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 13

The result will be located at the bottom of the Channels palette, name it ‘Alpha 1′. Click it, select all (Ctrl + A), copy (Ctrl + C), and then go back to the Layers Palette and paste it (Ctrl + V) on top of all the layers. Then set the Blending Mode to Soft light. Name it ‘Basic’.
enhance retouch step13 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 14

The dark details distribute nicely, but there seems to be too much light. Let’s decrease it a little. Double click the Basic Layer to bring up the Layer Style dialog box, then while holding the Altkey, move the white triangle to the left; it will separate the triangles to give us a smooth transition.
enhance retouch step14 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 15

On step 13, we may have lost some details on her clothes; so let’s fix that. To do that, add a layer mask for this Layer (Basic Layer), and brush that area with the soft black brush, to get back some detail from the underlying layer. I use a Soft Round Brush with size 50 px, Hardness 0%, andOpacity 20%. Make sure you target the Layer Mask Thumbnail on the Layers Pallete before brushing.
enhance retouch step15 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 16

Now let’s smooth out the skin especially the right shoulder. To do that, hit Ctrl + Shift + Alt+ E again and apply the median filter. Choose Filter > Noise > Median. Set the radius to 10 pixels. Again, apply a layer mask to this layer, Hide All by holding the Alt key when you click theAdd Layer Mask button. Use a white smooth brush to cover the rough areas, but leave the hair and edges. Name this layer ‘Smooth Skin’.
enhance retouch step16 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 17

Now let’s sharpen the image. Like before, hit Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E, and name it ‘Sharpen’. Copy this new layer by hitting Ctrl + J. Hide the copy by clicking the eye icon on the Layers Palette. And then target the original Sharpen layer, go to Filter > Other > High Pass. Set the radiusto 2 pixels, and change the Blending Mode to Vivid Light.
We can see now, how the details become more vivid in this image. However, the hair has also ‘sharpened’ and looks rough, which is not wanted, so, let’s add a layer mask again, reveal only some parts: eyes, nose, lips and clothes using a smooth soft brush.
enhance retouch step17 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 18

Now target the Sharpen Copy layer that we’ve made before. Make it visible. Name it ‘Smooth Hair’, because this time I want to smooth out the hair using this layer. Go to Filter > Stylize > Diffuse. Select Anisotropic, and then click OK. Add a Layer Mask, and hide all areas except the hair. Zoom in to see the result.
enhance retouch step18 How to Enhance & Retouch an Image Photoshop Tutorial

Step 19

Finally, create the Hue/Saturation adjustments layer on top. Set the Saturation value to 20 to give this image more color. You can compare this final result with the original image, by simply holding the Alt key, and clicking on the eye icon of the original layer image.

PC tips

Home PC Tips 1 - Make a back-up of your information. There's not one proven way to back-up but use which way works best for you. CD-R's, Zip Drives, and special back-up programs are all plausible options. This way if your system crashes you can have something to replace it with rather than loosing all your information. You won't have the latest updates, but at least you're not starting from scratch
Home PC Tips 2 - Another option is to create an image map of your hard drive using two removable hard drives. Use one as the main drive and the second as a back up drive. Make sure the image map is the same on both drives. You can then switch out drives quickly and easily if there is ever an uncorrectable problem with the main drive.
Home PC Tips 3 - Using windows, you can press the Windows key + F to open up a search window for your Home PC. To search other Home PCs on your network, you can press the Windows key + F + Ctrl.
Home PC Tips 4 - Avoid overloading your USB ports with devices. Your USB ports have a limited electrical supply and too many devices can cause a short circuit when competing for the same supply. This can cause problems for other devices in your Home PC. You can check your output through Windows Device Manager. If you have too much, you may wish to move some devices or get an external USB hub.
Home PC Tips 5 - A shortcut to entering websites is to type the name of the site you wish to visit into your address bar and then press Ctrl + Enter together to automatically enter the rest of the URL (http:// and .com).

Home PC Tips 6 - If you use external devices such as cameras, external drives, etc you may want to consider locking the drives associated with the device. Every time you plug in a new device it gets assigned a drive name. If you are using an application that uses that device, conflicts may occur if it is assigned another drive name every time it is plugged in.
Home PC Tips 7 - If you have multiple programs open in Windows, you can easily switch between them by holding Alt + pressing Tab to cycle through them.
Home PC Tips 8 - If you wish to make your Home PC more secure when not in front of it, you can enable a password protected screensaver or press Windows Key + L to "lock" your Home PC. A locked can only be unlocked by entering in your Windows user password.
Home PC Tips 9 - An overheated Home PC can lead to numerous problems. Ensure that your fan is working properly and isn't cluttered with dust. Over heating can cause permanent CPU damage. If your Home PC is newer, it may contain a thermal sensor that can detect when it is overheating; check your settings to make sure it's configured properly.
Home PC Tips 10 - Whenever using external devices make sure that you remove the device properly or you may experience some data loss. A "remove hardware" icon should appear in your system tray. Click on it and select the drive name of the device you wish to remove and wait for the dialog box to appear that lets you now it is safe to remove the device.

BEAUTY TIPS

Beauty Tips 1
- Hair: Want a crisper look? Trim off those dead ends.
Beauty Tips 2 - Conceal blemishes and fine age lines by dabbing on a bit of skin colored concealer.
Beauty Tips 3 - Put your makeup on in soft light. This helps you see your face in a natural setting and will help you use make-up sparingly.
Beauty Tips 4 - Apply blush underneath your cheekbones to make them stand out more. This will make the hollow of your cheeks look bigger leaving your face looking thinner.
Beauty Tips 5 - Keep your finger nail polish in the refrigerator. It helps keep it from thickening.

Beauty Tips 6 - When thinking about beauty, think about the senses (ex: see, smell, touch, etc.). How do we want to be beautiful? It's not all about vision. It's also about smell (perfume, scented lotions), touch (silky hair, smooth skin), and more.
Beauty Tips 7 - Get enough sleep. With our busy lives, we often rob ourselves of needed sleep. Lack of sleep also affects our beauty. It can causes droopy skin, bloodshot eyes, and an overall tired look.
Beauty Tips 8 - Did you know that your attitude and disposition affect your beauty?. Statistics have shown that we find happy people more beautiful. Read positive, inspirational books. Make sure you have sources of wisdom in your life. This keeps you happy, content, and smiling. This makes you beautiful!
Beauty Tips 9 - Get enough exercise. Exercise ensures proper blood flow and which in turn helps keep wrinkles at bay.
Beauty Tips 10 - Fingernails Tip: Long decorated nails are nice but be careful not to overdue it. Some girls go for the extra long, super artistic look. This can sometimes actually end up looking more tacky than beautiful.
Beauty Tips 11 - Spend the time to learn proven makeup tips. It's been said that properly applied makeup is like the proverbial icing on an otherwise bland cake.

Beauty Tips 12 - Practice good oral hygiene. Clean your teeth after every meal. Use whiteners to keep your teeth looking fresh. And use mouthwash, mints, or sweet smelling gum to make a bursting impression.

Beauty Tips 13 - Remember "Madge the Manicurist" in the old dishwashing liquid commercials? She may have been on to something. Soaking your fingernails in Dawn dishwashing liquid not only softens the cuticles (making them easier to push back), but also makes the nail polish stick more firmly and last longer (wash your hands, of course, before applying polish).

Beauty Tips 14 - For stronger fingernails, try soaking your fingers in lukewarm olive oil and lemon juice.

Beauty Tips 15 - If you have access to a dry sauna, use it!! They have therapeutic benefits such as:
-improving blood circulation, cleaning and rejuvinating the skin, easing muscle tension, promoting feelings of relaxation and well-being, enhancing detoxification processes. Make sure you take a bottle of water to drink while in the sauna to keep hydrated too!

Beauty Tips 16 - If you have dark eye circles, either apply slices of a raw potato or cucumber slices over your eyelids for 15 minutes.

Beauty Tips 17 - If you have bags under your eyes or your eyes are puffy, get some tea bags!! You can use either black tea or green tea bags for this. Boil water and place 2 tea bags in it, like your making tea to drink. After you brew the tea bags for 5 minutes, take them out and ring out the liquid. Place both tea bags in the freezer to cool for about 10-15 minutes. Lay down, place the tea bags over your eyes for 10-15 minutes (turning the tea bags over half way through), and relax. After you finish, throw the tea bags away and rinse your face with cool water to remove any tea stains. Make sure you also remove any residue with a cold damp washcloth.

Beauty Tips 18 - Going to the beach or pool? The sun can damage you hair just as much as your skin. Spray in some leave-in conditioner with sunscreen and comb your hair to avoid a tangled mess.
Beauty Tips 19 - Use lotion on your face before applying foundation. It helps even out your skin and foundation goes on smoother.
Beauty Tips 20 - The best way to test a foundation shade is by applying it right under your jaw line.

BAND TIPS - How to Find Gigs, Practicing

Band Tips 1 - Be a team player. Sometimes we can focus on our own playing a little too much and we forget that a band is made up of a unit that must all work together. Be sure to play tastefully and leave space for the other band members to do their thing.
Band Tips 2- When looking to form or join a band, avoid flyers and blind advertisements in classified areas or Craigslist. While these sources can work, a much more successful method is to go meet and hear others playing, either individually or on a gig.
Band Tips 3- How to get gigs: Be proactive in finding a gig. Look in newspapers, search online databases, post on music store bulletin boards, check with your local talent agency. Here are some ideas:
  • Classified ads – check your local newspaper, music papers, internet classifieds, etc.
  • Bulletin boards – music stores, record shops, drum shops, talent agencies, usually have boards.
  • Live bands – network! Go out, meet, and interact with live bands. This is one of the best ways to learn about who’s looking for who.
  • Talent agencies – get to know the people who work in talent agencies. They can sometimes help you find a suitable band or at the very least, pass the word along that you're looking for players.
  • Musicians union – The Musician’s union is a great place to find work. Great contacts can be made as well. Numerous pro musicians get valuable contacts and work through the union.
  • Music studios – Stay in touch with the musicians behind the scenes at recording studios. They are recording all your friends are usually on top of what's going on.
  • Jam sessions – Jam sessions are a bit more popular in larger towns, but when you can find them, they are valuable music networking havens! You'll meet tons of musicians there.
Band Tips 4 - Practice, Practice, Practice! - This tip can not be overstated. Your band will only be as good ad what you put into it. Take the time to rehearse. Schedule rehearsals weekly so everyone will be prepared.
Band Tips 5 - When playing, whether in rehearsal or performance, the best thing you can do to better the music is - listen. Listen to yourself. Listen to the rest of the band. Listen to how you fit together. Listen to the direction of the song. You will find that your mind will create better music and better musical opportunities.

Band Tips 6 - It is imperative that everyone in the band be prepared for the gig. Instruments need to be ready to play once they are pulled from the case - have them tuned, cleaned, oiled, whatever. Make sure everyone has the song lists and have extra copies. Make sure you have all your gear.
Band Tips 7 - A great tool to have is a gear checklist. Run through it the day before the gig to double-check and prevent any unpleasant surprises

Band Tips 8 - Don't forget about showmanship. You can have the best group of musicians in the world, in the best band, but if you collectively look like a bump on a log, the crowd may not like you. Work on moving around, enjoying yourselves, and getting the crowd involved.
Band Tips 9 - This goes mainly for instrumentalists: have you thought much about the meaning of the songs you play? Have you thought about the story they tell? Have you thought about what you can do with your playing to help express that story? Take a cue from your vocalist as singers usually do a great job with expressing the lyrics.
Band Tips 10 - Make it a point to know the people that are in contact with your gig - any agents, audience, and most importantly the person(s) who pay you. Find out what they want and deliver!

ARCHITECT TIPS

Architect Tips 1
- Get referrals of the architect's work. Ask friends or family members who have dealt with the architect previously. Most likely, they will be truthful about their experiences. Also, ask Realtors in your area as they may have extensive experience with some. You can also get a feel for the styles that the architect prefers. Most architects, while having a wide portfolio of styles, will still have particular methods that they utilize every time.

Architect Tips 2 - Check out open house or "home shows". Some housing communities will host events for prospective home buyers to check out the designs of newly-built homes. It can help you decide on features that you would like to include and may also lead to contacts for you to the architect who built the home.
Architect Tips 3 - Make sure the architect is suited for your needs. Some architects only prefer certain styles or larger projects. Find one whose work is comparable to the work that you need done. Call them and pitch your idea to them to see if it's something they might be interested in.
Architect Tips 4 - Set up some face-to-face time with the architect before you being. Call to set up an interview and be sure to ask if there are any charges for this service beforehand. Prepare your questions ahead of time to best manage your time and be sure to hit all the important points such as their cost, how long they think the project will take to complete, and will the architect you are speaking with will lead the project. You will need all the information available to make an informed decision.
Architect Tips 5 - If you specific ideas concerning the design for the project, be sure to voice them to the architect. How the architect handles your ideas is a very telling sign. You want an architect who is open to your suggestions since you are the one paying for the project and who will be ultimately living with it. If your architect is hesitant to accept your ideas, you may wish to find another one.

Architect Tips 6 - Meet with more than one architect. Even if the architect is highly recommended, you will want to speak with several architects to ascertain the entire field that is available to you. You may find that another qualified architect can do the project cheaper or their design philosophy is more in tune with yours for the project than the initial architect.
Architect Tips 7 - Always have a contract drawn up. This will assist you greatly down the road if there are any issues concerning the project. You can easily refer to the contract to see what options were agreed upon. Be sure to have a lawyer review the document before signing.
Architect Tips 8 - Just like you can check out business through the BBB, architects also have a organization called the American Institute of Architects. Check out there website for numerous resources on architects including locating ones in your area, searching by architecture style, assistance with hiring an architect, and more. With over 77,000 members, you are sure to be able to find help. Members are also held to the strict ethical and professional codes of conduct of the AIA.
Architect Tips 9 - The AIA is also a great place to check for any complaints against architects. Just like the BBB, the AIA looks into any complaint made against a member. If a complaint is found to be valid, then the AIA will issue punitive actions and a record will be kept of the offending party. You will need to contact the AIA for a list of offenders.
Architect Tips 10 - Take your time with finding the right architect. Rushing the process can lead to making hasty decisions that can cause your project to not meet your expectations. For the amount of money you are going to invest and the fact that you will have to live with the project, you want to insure that you find the best possible architect.

This will help you stay on top of your financials while still be able to focus on your business.
Accounting Tips 6 - Begin to set purchasing limits within your own company. Require approval for purchases that exceed a certain set amount either by yourself or a manager / executive. Make sure that the purchase orders / expense reports are complete and detailed with notes as to the importance of the expenditure.
Accounting Tips 7 - Keep an eye on any outstanding balances. If you notice that they are piling up, you may want to institute sterner collection policies. Using software also cuts down on the redundancy of having to rewrite customer or vendor information on separate forms as they program will often store the information in a database that you can then retrieve at any time. If you are running your business yourself without any help and only a small customer base, then you may not need a software program or could use a free or low-cost option. However, if you have employees, a good sized inventory, and/or many customers, then using software will help you run more efficiently and more accurately.
